I wanted to know if when we travel by road in a car and i see a lovely sight which i want to take photo of, could i stop on the shoulder of the road and take photos? Is it illegal? If it is illegal how can we take photos of scenic spots? Please help planning to drive down in next week.........

For the most part, of course...you can pull over and take pictures of anything you like. The only concern would be safety. If you're on an Interstate highway (denoted with I-nnn) , you're only supposed to pull over for emergencies and/or car trouble. Even then, it would be quite odd for you to receive a ticket for briefly and safely pulling over. On non-intersate roads, you just need to worry about the safety thing and also make sure you aren't blocking or distracting the smooth flow of traffic. Keep in mind it may be safer to just exit highways, snap your photo and get back on. One more thing - never ever go in reverse on an off ramp or if you pass your exit. Have a great time...JD

Most of the time there will be rest areas and/or places to pull off of the highway to take pictures of scenic locations. Some highways have signs pointing to "Scenic Overlooks". You should not just stop on an Interstate highway to take pictures. Very few have the type shoulders to allow you to just stop your car. Secondary roods will have less traffic, but also fewer places to safely pull over. Just be safe when you do pull off, take your photos quickly and then safely get back on the road.

Driving rules are determined by the individual state governments so it is different everywhere. The best place for driving rules for a trip is AAA (Automobile Association). If you want to look at the specific state web site, we call it the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles.) For the most part, you can pull over for a very short time on any highway / freeway to snap a picture. The worst that can happen is a patrolman will stop and tell you to keep moving. Just watch for signs that say - No Shoulder or No Stopping, because if you stop there, you will get a ticket.

What is the independent travel which I plan and I realise? - Independent travel for me it: independence, a freedom in choosing and decision-making. It is responsibility which lies on me and only on me. Is a way to experience the country, to size up it without relying on luster of tourist magazines, being in private with way of life: people, meal, binge, dances, the nature...
