My old 92 Buick Century has recently developed an odd issue with the power windows. What happened was the front power windows (both left and right) started having issues opening and closing unless you held the driver's door open a certain amount of distance. I figured this problem was obviously wiring or the master switch cluster in the driver's side door. Now the front windows are totally dead, back ones work, though. The Hayes service manual schematics are nice and vague, but I've done some partial disassembling of the master switch cluster. The pink wire going into the switch cluster is the hot wire. Black, obviously, is ground. With some hot wiring from the light green to the dark blue, I can make the front windows work, but given the amperage they draw, I don't think hot wiring is a good idea unless I have no other choice. However, hot wiring did rule out one culprit -- the switch cluster in the driver's door. Here's my problem...if anyone out there has ever dealt with this with any Buick or any GM power window set. The Hayes manual shows additional wiring that MIGHT travel down to a relay and a power window. Or are those one and the same? Or is there a cluster of window relays in the dash? I've been trying to find another resource besides Hayes online, but so far I've turned up nothing. I need to know where all this wiring goes from the main switch cluster in the driver's door. Or rather, I need a better description/depiction of it. Thanks. SB Minneapolis
The key to your question lies in the fact that you said it would work with the door partially open. It is quite common for the wires that pass from the door to the body to get damaged. Simply open the door and remove the rubber boot carefully examine the wire bundle that passes through it I am confident that you will find a broken or abraded wire or wires inside.
