Russian television showed the missile emerging from the icy waters of the Arctic Barents sea for the 11,547 km (7,200 miles) journey to the Pacific. "Not one missile of this class has ever flown so far," Russian television showed Medvedev telling sailors. The spokesman did not specify the area where the missile landed. He said the area was closed for navigation and flights ahead of the test in accordance with international rules. http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/reuters/081011/world/international_us_russia_missile Russian submarines armed with intercontinental ballistic missiles will test fire their rockets in the north Pacific Ocean September 15-20. http://www.presstv.ir/Detail.aspx?id=69427&sectionid=351020602 Russian Navy spokesman Igor Dygalo said the nuclear-powered cruiser, the Peter the Great, accompanied by three other ships set sail at 10:00 am (0600 GMT), and would travel 15,000 nautical miles to reach their destination. http://www.presstv.ir/Detail.aspx?id=70211&sectionid=351020704 In an interview with Press TV (Iranian news) Russia's President said "The US has attacked Russia using Georgian hands" The US via NATO now wants to rearm Georgia - who's President has vowed to recapture the lost Provinces which Russia vows to protect The President Putin has openly compared Bush and America to the 3rd Reich --- during world war 2 the Russians lost an estimated 25 million people They accuse NATO of "ringing " them They have protected Iran and oppose military strikes against Iran - The US and Israel are in favor of them 10 Russian war ships are now parked off the coast of Syria - less that 200 km from Israel (no word on why they are there) Long range bomber patrols have begun over the Atlantic a military base has been proposed by Venezuela Russian war ships a base and nuclear cooperation are now all on the table giving Russia a lot of access to the Caribbean Sea ----- Cuba is considered neutral and within 100 km of the Gulf of Mexico ******************************************************* Russian and Venezuelan Foreign Ministers said they have no plans to attack the US The only hope Russia has of winning a nuclear war with the US is a sneak attack - Russia must take out the mid west of the US before the US can respond - leaving only US nuclear subs with no command structure to worry about But don't worry with all the motives to attack the US in the world they say they won't do it - and no need to worry just because they just shaved off 10 minutes worth of US response time by bringing the missiles 10 minutes closer to the US They wouldn't dare ....opps that what Georgia and the US thought about the Aug 8th thing

Its been that way since the early 50s and we have ours near their waters as well.

they always have a couple ballistic missile submarines in secret locations, this is nothing new russia is designing new ICBMs because of US missile defense.

They have had thousands of nuclear warheads aimed at our heads for years. The fact that the missiles are closer does not make me any more paranoid that they will use them in an attack.

we are surrounding Russia with missile bases. the old bear is just flexing his muscles. we need a diplomatic president to be able to contain the Russian threat and avoid another cold war. this president is NOT going to be McCain.

We have nuclear missiles on all their coasts too. The fact is, nobody can actually use them except in defense. Very soon after Hiroshima it was realized by everyone that nuclear weapons could never really be used to -start- a war. For one thing, they are most useful as a 'terror' weapon, targetting innocent civilian populations (as they were used in WWII). Secondly, they do serious damage far outside the target zone, and to friend as well as foe. Whoever uses nukes first becomes the enemy of the whole world and there is no way he can win. Every nuclear nation knows this, and it's the main reason nukes haven't been used since then. No leader of a nuclear nation can envision a scenario where he has anything to gain by first use. This is why every nuclear nation has signed a no-first-use agreement, except of course the US. The US believes it should be the only nuclear nation. But our foreign policy has made that less likely, not more. It's been shown maybe a dozen times since WWII that we have no way of keeping any nation from developing nuclear capability, or deploying nuclear weapons pointed our way, beyond simple diplomacy.

Don't worry it's us in the UK that are going to get attacked and invaded - not you - so chill out - it's the truth -like it or not

Because Russia won't let herself get weakened, or threatened by our missile defense. That's why they are showing force. Remember when the USSR installed the missile shield in Cuba? But this time, we are the bullies, and our government has been behaving badly. It's time to change foreign policy. Being friends with Russia would boost up world security, strong economies, and peaceful world.

What I make of that is that it's one more reason I don't want the musslim socialist obama to be our Commander In Chief of our military, downsizing in favor of handouts to the lazy and unwilling. Friends don't let friends vote Socialist!

As they have since the mid 1950s along with our ships and subs near the Russian coast. So what has changed?

What's your point? In the last 8 years the USA has been the most aggressive, war mongering nation on the planet. They sure as hell have made me far more nervous than the Russians. Here's how I see it: Most countries around the world (coalition of the willing) have kowtowed to the Bush regime like a bunch of wimps. Smaller countries have said nothing because they are in no position to do so. (IMF and World Bank loans have indebted them to the US) China will try and bring the US down through economic leverage rather than outright war. It is only Russia that has said to the US, "Enough." These neo cons in Washington think they can run around like a bunch of loose cannons and no one will stand up to them. Russia is simply telling them to stand down. You seem to think that it's okay for the US to put missiles, fleets and armies wherever they feel like it, but the Russians can't? What kind of logic is that? IMO, the Russians are playing games with the US to see what they will do. I don't agree with either of them doing this, but at the same time I see it for what it really is. They're like two kids playing chicken in a school yard. Absolutely ridiculous.

SO ! WHY NOT THE USA DOES IT SINCE THE COLD WAR AND BEFORE THAT what is good for the goose is good for the gander

What is the independent travel which I plan and I realise? - Independent travel for me it: independence, a freedom in choosing and decision-making. It is responsibility which lies on me and only on me. Is a way to experience the country, to size up it without relying on luster of tourist magazines, being in private with way of life: people, meal, binge, dances, the nature...
