I travel a lot, and because I'm watching my weight I take special food/condiments along with me. (like fat free mayo packets, fruit like apples or bananas, sometimes a sandwich) It's always been okay to take these things through security. (I don't check-in baggage to save time and money) But I've always trevele within the States, and this time I am going to Montreal. Are there different rules about what is okay to bring? Is taking fruit to another country a big no no?
avoid liquids, you can buy them at the airport fruits are ok and sandwiches display foods like fruits in a clear plastic sandwich bag
go to your airlines website and see.
Food is fine, as long as it's not a liquid or gel. Most food, you only have to worry about it being a gel. For instance, pie filling in a pie is a gel, no matter what the head of TSA says. (He said pie is not a liquid, but they still don't let it on flights.) Peanut butter and jam are both gels. Just think about the food you're bringing. Can you spread any part of it with a butter knife? Then it's probably a gel. TSA regulations are not any different for domestic or international flights. What you have to worry about are customs. Produce is a problem, because it could introduce non-native species - either through the seeds of the fruit itself, or parasites inside it. I would avoid any fresh fruits or vegetables. Processed foods or sandwiches should not be an issue at all. Alcohol, I believe, should be purchased at the duty-free shop at the airport, not brought from home.
if you eat the fruit cake on the plane, then thats no problem. But if you want to take it into Canada, you may have to check the Canadaians Customs laws to see if you can take fruit into their country (I dont know the rule so I cant say) because if you tried to bring fruit cake into Australia, they would take it off you straight away because if the fruit contains a diesese or there is something in the seed that is harmful to other plants or wildlife, then its costly to the country - so they may ban it from been taken into the country. But Canada may be fine because you are from the USA.....like I said, I cant answer on behalf of Canada. But to answer your initial question, yes, you would be allowed to take food onto the plane.
| What is the independent travel which I plan and I realise? - Independent travel for me it: independence, a freedom in choosing and decision-making. It is responsibility which lies on me and only on me. Is a way to experience the country, to size up it without relying on luster of tourist magazines, being in private with way of life: people, meal, binge, dances, the nature... |
