What do I do if I win something, I can't get out of?
I will be living in northern Germany for the next 6 months and want to see some of Switzerland while I'm there. I won't be there during the warmer summer months so I've figured hiking is probably unfortunately ruled out, but I would also enjoy a day of skiing along with my travels. (I haven't skied in many years, so nothing too rough.) I'm completely unfamiliar with the country and would like some suggestions on where to go for possibly 3 days including travel from Germany (I'm also on a tight budget, will probably have a railpass and not fly as well). It seems in other posts people have listed so many places I haven't an idea of where to start. Hopefully looking forward to a fairly inexpensive extended weekend and an appreciation of Switzerland in the wintertime. Any ideas for a possible itinerary? -Thanks
I would recommend getting a Eurorail pass so that you could do many things. They offer specific passes like going to Switzerland for so many days out of the month or having like 2 countries, in this case both Germany and Switzerland. You could first travel to Bassel which is right on the German border and there are many things to do there. Spend a couple of days there, then go to Bern for 2 days, then Geneva for 3 days, then to the Alps and on your way back, stop into Zurich for a day. I am not sure how much time you have but in terms of visiting, you could go to those 4 cities, plus go to St. Moritz which was host of the Winter Olympics and see the Alps, and possibly go skiing. You might also consider going close to the Italian border and seeing the Matterhorn which is one of the largest mountains in Europe. You would have to go to a city like Zematt to see it but it is consider a very "old" traditional Swiss city. Hope you have a good time.
| What is the independent travel which I plan and I realise? - Independent travel for me it: independence, a freedom in choosing and decision-making. It is responsibility which lies on me and only on me. Is a way to experience the country, to size up it without relying on luster of tourist magazines, being in private with way of life: people, meal, binge, dances, the nature... |
