This is an idea that recently crossed my mind. If this has been done before, please let me know. If not, please advise as to whether it's a good idea. Overview: A website that allows users to track and plan trips, upload reviews, submit hidden gems, offer travel tips, and share other travel experiences. Users would be able to set personal goals. One unique advantage to this site would be a travel achievements tracker, which they could tailor to meet their needs, and would either be private or public, depending on the user's preferences. Public achievements would be post on a leaderboard, which could be viewed by any individual signed in. For example: Set foot on each continent - 20 Points. Set foot in every country in one continent - 50 Points Set foot in every country in six continents - 250 Points Users would be responsible for checking their own scores, but would have to upload a photo of the location, along with the location and date, or write a review about the location in order to validate it. There is some room for cheating, although the only thing that they cheat are themselves. others who view these public achievements could verify that they did in fact complete these tasks, which would matter more for high ranking profiles (which are more visible). Any thoughts? @AndyL - Just looked at the TripAdvisor forum. That's almost what I was looking at. I agree that most people don't travel that much; The site would be for those who do. The thing that I am really looking for (either in an existing site or in a new one) would be the travel achievements. As for revenue, I would pay for the site myself. Charging for the service would hurt the site, and I despise adverts.
Tripadvisor forums have most of this and is well established. There are not enough people doing high volume travel for a web site you describe. Those that do travel a lot are usually on business trips and have no interest in tracking and posting details. In what way would you make money? Could not get people to pay for it, and advertisers are already using the existing many sites.
| What is the independent travel which I plan and I realise? - Independent travel for me it: independence, a freedom in choosing and decision-making. It is responsibility which lies on me and only on me. Is a way to experience the country, to size up it without relying on luster of tourist magazines, being in private with way of life: people, meal, binge, dances, the nature... |
