I'm looking to take a scenic trip by train, I don't have a particular destination. I do know I want to take a scenic train somewhere for about two days, spend a night in a small town, and travel back home. Are there websites available to look at opportunities? Thanks! Specifically out of Burlington. *I want to reach out of the New England Area, some place that'd take a few days to get to.
I'm not sure if there are passenger trains in Vermont, try amtrak.com.
just keep in mind if going long distances: taking the train takes twice as long as driving or taking a bus.It is scenic though!
The Champlain Valley Flyer: Burlington, VT - Shelburne, VT. Take a train ride through the beautiful Champlain Valley. Rising over the eastern horizon you will see both Camel’s Hump and Mt. Mansfield, the two highest mountains in Vermont. Enjoy all the attractions on the Burlington waterfront. The Champlain Ferry dock is just a short walk from the train station. The train meanders through gently rolling green pastures that sweep down to the shores of beautiful Lake Champlain. Across the lake, the Adirondacks of New York provide a picturesque backdrop. While in Shelburne, be sure to visit the Shelburne Museum. Extra Note: this trip is available out of Burlington rail station. The Adirondack mountains as mentioned above are really something special. I hope to visit Burlington later this year and am assured it is a great place and a good base for seeing Vermont but try to do some via car/bus because although very scenic, the train takes twice as long as car/bus.
