Going on a trip to Alaska, what do I need to pack.....?

I am going to Germany soon and I just wanted to know what are some of the guidelines? I heard you have to take all of your jewelry off and I can not take my wedding ring off. It fits fine down on my finger but I can't get it over the fat part of my finger. I gained wieght so it wont go...what do I do at the checkppint place? Or does anyone have any good tips on how to get it off? Like...soap, lotion and such...I need help!

I'm an American, but I live in England. I wear quite a bit jewelry and have never had to take it off while traveling domestic or international flights. You have to take off a belt, your shoes, take your lap-top out of its case, and make sure you don't have keys/coins etc in your pockets. I wouldn't worry about jewelry-I wear two rings, toe rings, necklace, watch, and earrings and have never taken them off. You cannot have very many liquids in your carry-on. You can have a zip lock bag with liquids if they're not over 100ml-the airports usually provide the baggies-put them in the tub during screening. Keep your passport and flight itinerary close-I would suggest a purse/handbag that can go over your shoulder-less to carry, less likely to get stolen. *Just an FYI-I just got back from Germany and did not have to remove any of my jewelry. I flew into Frankfurt-flew to Berlin and then back to Frankfurt to fly to London. I was also allowed liquids in the plastic baggy.

German airports, especially Frankfurt, have much stricter security laws than US airports. You won't be required to remove your ring, but all other jewelry, belts, etc. (Of course, this will be for your departure; you don't go through security upon your arrival.) You *cannot* take liquids on the plane (again, departure from Germany), even if you bought them after going through security. If you're selected, be prepared for a very friendly body pat down. I use "friendly" ironically.

show the secruity guards that it won't come off it's no biggie

I wouldn't worry about your wedding ring. I wear three thick, heavy silver bangles and generally take those off at security, but never remove my ring or earrings and have never been asked to, anywhere in the world.

What is the independent travel which I plan and I realise? - Independent travel for me it: independence, a freedom in choosing and decision-making. It is responsibility which lies on me and only on me. Is a way to experience the country, to size up it without relying on luster of tourist magazines, being in private with way of life: people, meal, binge, dances, the nature...
