Planning a trip to Istanbul, Turkey. any good travel tips?
can anyone offer travel tips on Istanbul?
I live in NYC and I am planing to travel to Istanbul Turkey this coming summer and I need some tips. I am going to be staying there for about a month at least and I am looking for some affordable furnished 1 bedroom or Studio apartment for two adults. I want it to be in Istanbul that is close to all the nice places to see in Istanbul. I want to know how much 1 bedroom or studio costs on average and how much it would cost me to live there ruffly. including the cost of the apartment, food, transportation, for a month. Anything you can tell me it would be a good help. Thank you!
Well, you want a location such as Bogylu,Changlir or Sulanahmet. Make sure the apartment is near a tram station (not a train station). Like everything else in Turkey, these people will deal with you on the pricing in most cases if your stay is extended. Try a site like AIRBNB, to get an idea of prices. The nearer you are to Sultanahmet, the higher the prices. Personally, i would steer away from the Taksim Square area as it is not that convenient. Nor is the Galata Tower area. You can find a decent studio for around $45/night; one bedroom $65/night. Transport in Istanbul is pretty easy with the subway and the tram lines. The fare is 2TL, per line or $1 US. You can also buy a pass but I am not sure what the savings would be. For instance, from Sultanahmat Square to Ataturk Airport would cost you 4TL each way. You'd pay 2TL on the tram line and then transfer to the subway at one of the connecting stations and then pay another 2TL. Ferries across the Bosporus are only 5TL as well as the ferries out to Princes' Islands (a must see/do..plan the entire day). Food is pretty inexpensive. Restaurants in the tourist areas are more expensive. Alcohol is very expensive except beer. If you prepare breakfast in the apartment everyday, and evening meals on occasion, only eating lunch at a restaurant, you can probably get by on $25/day. Money is not an issue for me, so it is difficult to tell you how to scrimp and live cheaply. You will figure it out. Bon Voyage.
I really think you'd be more comfortable in a modest hotel in Taksim area.
| What is the independent travel which I plan and I realise? - Independent travel for me it: independence, a freedom in choosing and decision-making. It is responsibility which lies on me and only on me. Is a way to experience the country, to size up it without relying on luster of tourist magazines, being in private with way of life: people, meal, binge, dances, the nature... |
