I am planning on backpacking SE Asia mainland (Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore, China and Vietnam) for 12-15 weeks. I plan on traveling on the bare minimum/on a budget. I plan on using the trains and public buses to get around and eat local foods and stay in hostels to cut cost. How much will I need to back pack for this time period in this area of the world and still come back with an unforgettable experience? In addition, on average what can I expect to pay for a flight there? Any/all recommendations/tips appreciated!!!
If you want to go to the minimum, it is possible for less than $10/day. For the flight it depends where you're leaving from. You should check flight price on internet.
it depends on your tour itinerary. You can check the price on these site:itourschina.com tripadvisor.com ,etc.
Singapore and Thailand are expensive cosmopolitan countries and it is not cheap. Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam are cheap to visit. For China, it depends on which parts you go to since the cities are always more expensive. I travelled to Thailand thinking that it's a cheap place and only brought $300 for 5 days. Luckily I have my Visa and ended up spending more than $1000. To be fair, if you really have strong determination, it is possible to get by in Singapore(the most expensive country out of those that you've listed) with S$15 a day. For other countries, you can expect to pay less.
Airfares are cheap thanks to budget carriers like AirAsia.com and NokAir.com. One way flights to Chiang Mai and Phuket from Bangkok are around 2000 Baht including all taxes, which are usually more expensive than the flights themselves. There are also many special offers. Seeing the sights in much of Thailand is relatively inexpensive. Even a visit to the Grand Palace in Bangkok or Wat Po only costs a couple hundred baht admission. Excursions are more costly, and most day trips are around 1500 - 2000 Baht. e.g. seeing the Bridge over the River Kwai and the Tiger Temple, a day trip to the temples of Ayutthaya, kayaking in Krabi, elephant trekking in Khao Sok etc. You don’t need to plan doing many of these things very far in advance - booking a day or so ahead is usually fine. But you’ll need to have some money set aside in your budget all the same. Accommodation will be around 1000 baht a day if you want a proper hotel with a swimming pool and air conditioning. It depends on what you consider acceptable. you can also try this site. click on hotel's name and it will show you all hotel's info, including room rate, photo, and previous customer's reviews. Have a nice trip!!!
I usually budget for $2,000 (£1,000) when I travel around South East Asia, but I'll also take a credit card with me as back up in case things get tough or I want to do something expensive!
| What is the independent travel which I plan and I realise? - Independent travel for me it: independence, a freedom in choosing and decision-making. It is responsibility which lies on me and only on me. Is a way to experience the country, to size up it without relying on luster of tourist magazines, being in private with way of life: people, meal, binge, dances, the nature... |
