My friend and I decided to take a trip to Europe in the summer of 2009 so we can save up for it. We'll be 19 and 18 at that time. We don't know the exact places we want to go, but Ireland, England, and Italy are definitely on the list. We were planning on staying about a month, more or less(more would probably be better right?). I don't know much about traveling and would like any tips you have. Mostly we want to sight see and enjoy the different cultures. We are planning on flying to Dublin, hang around there for X amount of days, go to England, and from there we don't really have it mapped out. I've looked into the euro-rail thing and it seems like a great option so we're going to do that. Are Bed and Breakfasts decent prices, or should we just stay in Hostels, or take night trains? Anything else you want me to know is greatly appreciated
Here FUN
I traveled all over Europe with a company called Trek, and we camped out and it cost very little money. Its only for young people, but it is also a great way to travel with people from all around the world.
Taking overnight trains in the couchettes is an awesome option. It can save you a lot of travel tiome. I would just make sure to check out places to stay and make reservations at the good hostels. You dont need reservations for hostels but in the summertime they get full fast. Also, make sure Euro-rail goes where you want to be. When I traveled in 03 It didnt go to UK (although I think there was some sort of boat option). Pack pretty light too... lugging a heavy backpack can really wear on you after a while so think twice if you want to bring a blow dryer or other stuff like that. When you have a bunch of luggage you tend to get targeted by some of the shady street folk over there so keep that in mind.
Great place to go! NV U ! Metro is a great way to travel anywhere in Europe. Buses are good too. Its better to have a plan, so you don't waste time and money. you might wanna do some research on what documents to have with you. And keep an eye on them. Everytime one of my friends would lose a doc. ora camera on our trips;)
Since your staying there for a Long time you probably should pack a lot of clothes, just make sure that you can wash your clothes somehow. I would stay in hotels because there hotels are really beautiful. And make sure you bring a lot of money. You can probably exchange your money for the money you need on your trip. Remember to pack light on stuff, because your going to buy a lot of souvenirs on your trip. HAVE FUN!
I was born in Ireland then moved to france when i was 8 and gremany when i was 11 then England last year. Berlin is beautiful especially in the winter. France is lovely in the summer - i would reccomend staying for a while in paris then go to explore a smaller town as they are often very beautiful and natural. You must also think about the language and changing currency.
Your plan sounds fantastic, I'm a little jealous I'm not going. Some suggestions: 1. When looking at Eurail passes make sure you consider all the options - just picking the one that says 30 days because you're going to be there 30 days isn't always the best option. When I was traveling it actually saved me about $150 to pay for two train rides separately and then start using my eurail pass (That's a few nights lodging!) versus buying a pass for the entire trip. 2. Night trains are a great way to save money on lodging, even if you do upgrade to a sleeper cabin. 3. Bed and Breakfasts are a great lodging option, but they're not like the Bed and Breakfasts in the US. It's really almost like spending a night in a stranger's home. A lot of times they are as cheap and sometimes they are cheaper than hostels. 4. Make sure that you keep your belongings and valuables to a minimum. I know it's hard when you're going to be gone for a month and you want all your cute clothes with, but it will be worth your while to pack light. Good luck!!

| What is the independent travel which I plan and I realise? - Independent travel for me it: independence, a freedom in choosing and decision-making. It is responsibility which lies on me and only on me. Is a way to experience the country, to size up it without relying on luster of tourist magazines, being in private with way of life: people, meal, binge, dances, the nature... |
